You didn't get an Internship, What Now?

So you've been furiously applying everywhere but the summer has ended and you were unsuccessful in obtaining that internship you wanted.

What should you do now?

We have some tips to share since we've also been in this situation.

  1. Re-organize your course sequence to fit an internship the following semester. Make sure you take into account courses offered specifically in Fall or Winter. Submit these changes and get it approved by your Co-op Advisor.

  2. Fix up your documents again. Get external help to find a outsiders perspective.

  3. Network with your friends who are on internship to recommend you for position after they leave at their current company.

  4. Join school clubs to work on industry related projects like SAE, UAV, Space Concordia, IEEE and many more. Contribute to these teams and learn new skills that you can talk about during interviews.

  5. Apply to internships abroad through online resources or through AISEC or Engineering Without Borders.

  6. Try to do a study term in a different country through exchange program. This increases your chances of gaining more valuable experience.

If you haven't already done so, read our articles on CV and Cover Letter Tips. We provide more information to align your documents to specific jobs.
